Kia Niro PHEV Gets Updated Features, Pricing For UK

With much attention centered around the arrival of the all-electric e-Niro, Kia has given the existing Niro Plug-In Hybrid some equipment revisions for the UK market. Of course, it comes at a revised price.

The standard Niro range, which also includes the non-plugged hybrid, received a modest facelift that was shown in March at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Now on sale in the UK, prices will run from £25,000 for a base hybrid, to £31,945 for the most expensive PHEV version, according to Autocar.

New features are mostly inside and include an available 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen to replace the standard 8-inch unit, while a 7-inch digital instrument panel screen is also available. All models get new interior materials that are meant to be a little softer and more pleasing to the eye than in the outgoing model. More visual excitement can be had with new personalization packs for the interior colors.

While unchanged underneath, the Niro hybrid and PHEV both received new lights and a new grille that better mimics that of the all-electric variant. Adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function and an active lane keep assist system are also options now.

While Kia has a lot of new plug-ins out, including the new Soul EV, the Niro PHEV doesn't deserve to be overshadowed. For those not yet ready to go all-electric, the Niro still has all of the ease-of-use virtues of the electric version and is a practical choice for those who want something in between a traditional hatchback and a compact SUV. Expect Niro PHEV information for other global markets soon.
