seltos suv: Kia Motors to develop 4 cars in 2 years; eyes 300 touch points by 2020, Auto News, ET Auto
The production of all the four new models will be done at the company's Anantpur plant in Andhra Pradesh, informed Han Woo Park, President and CEO, Kia Motors Corporation. It has already shared the plans to launch one product every six months.
"With the addition of plant (in Annapur in Andhra Pradesh) our global production capacity will increase to 4.1 million units annually" said Park while unveiling the company's maiden SUV Seltos for here.
Built with an investment of 1.1 billion USD, the Kia Motors Anantapur facility will have a total annual capacity of 30 lakh cars and company aims to achieve optimal capacity utilisation by 2022.
Kia Motors currently has 265 touchpoints in 160 cities, which it claims to be the highest among all the newcomers in Indian automobile industry. Going forth, it is planning to expand its reach to 300 touch points in 2020 and add 50 more in 2021.
Besides, the company also aspires to make India a global manufacturing hub. "We plan to sell India made Seltos in Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia”, Park added.
In the earlier interview with ETAuto, a top company official has said that the company will aim to be among top 5 carmakers in the country by 2022.
Tom Kearns, Senior Chief Designer and Vice President, Kia Design Centre America, said, "Kia is aiming as much as possible higher localised production for its entire India lineup. The Seltos being the first one, future models too will come with higher localisation". This will certainly help Kia to to achieve competitive pricing.

The company is making its debut in India with mid SUV Seltos which comes with BS VI equipped with diesel and petrol engines. Seltos offers UVO Connect technology with 37 smart features to offer an engaging drive with enhanced convenience. It features a segment-first 10.25-inch free standing touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, a 7-inch MID, adjustable headrests for all passengers, automatic climate control, and an electronic parking brake.
Kia, which has operations in 180 nations, was absent from just two important markets until recently — Mexico and India. It started operations in the North American country last year and is now all set to roll out its first product from India by in the second half of 2019.
