2020 Kia Sportage Looks Even Better As An SUV-Coupe

Most so-called SUV Coupe models nowadays are premium products from the likes of BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Lamborghini and so on.

But mainstream brands are catching up with proposals such as the Toyota C-HR (sort-of) or the upcoming VW Atlas Cross Sport. The Renault Arkana is also a good example of a non-premium Coupe-style crossover, although the French car won’t be available in as many markets as say the BMW X4 or the Audi Q8.

You know what might though? Something like a “coupe-style” version of the recently-updated 2020 Kia Sportage. This, of course, is only a CGI, put together by Kolesa to show us what the Sportage might look like with a sloped roof and a new rear end design.

The ProCeed-like tailgate kind of works on the Sportage, giving it more of a hatchback-like appearance, rather than a straight up SUV. But in the end, this is still a body style that sort of defeats the purpose when it comes to utility vehicles, and some buyers might not like that.

In reality, what we should expect from Kia is a more progressive design for their next-generation Sportage, which is still a long way off. It should, however, boast electrified powertrains and improved onboard tech. Whether it will also come with a less conventionally-styled body type, remains to be seen.

Still, being that the market seems to be moving towards increasingly diversified offerings, we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see more non-premium brands widening their portfolio of SUVs.
