Kia Ceed Sportswagon and XCeed PHEVs launched
Both models are powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and an 8.9kWh lithium-polymer battery pack, producing 139bhp and 265Nm of torque. The PHEV powertrain sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic, allowing the Ceed Sportswagon to accelerate from 0–62mph in 10.8 seconds and the XCeed in 11 seconds.
Kia is targeting an all-electric range of 60km (37 miles) for both models, with a regenerative braking system fitted as standard. CO2 emissions, economy figures and official charge times are still pending homologation and will be announced nearer to both cars’ on sale date.
The pair of PHEVs come as standard with a unique set of 16-inch alloy wheels and a redesigned, partially blanked-off radiator grille, which Kia says aids aerodynamic efficiency. As an optional extra, the Ceed Sportswagon can be specced with 17-inch alloys, while the XCeed Crossover can be had with 18-inch alloys.
Inside, both models come with a reconfigured version of Kia’s eight-inch infotainment screen, which offers support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Kia’s UVO telematics system. The software incorporates a range of new PHEV-specific features, such as a public charge-point locator and a charge scheduling function for home charging, allowing owners to take advantage of off-peak energy tariffs.
A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system can be specced as an optional extra, along with Kia’s 12.3-inch “Supervision” digital instrument binnacle. Both models also feature Kia’s new “Driver Only” heating and air-conditioning function. The system is designed to reduce the draw on both cars’ battery systems by switching off all but the driver’s ventilation fans.
