North American Car, Utility And Truck Of The Year Semifinalists Announced
The North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year Awards has announced this year’s semifinalists.
On the car side, there are a number of high-profile models including the Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche 911, Polestar 1 and Toyota Supra. There are also a handful of luxury cars including the BMW 3-Series, Cadillac CT5 and Mercedes A-Class. If that wasn’t enough competition, other semifinalists include the Hyundai Sonata, Kia Soul, Mazda3, Subaru Legacy and Volkswagen Arteon.
There aren’t any high-performance models on the utility side, but there is an electric vehicle in the form of the Audi E-Tron. It will compete with an assortment of other luxury models such as the Cadillac XT6, Lincoln Aviator, Lincoln Corsair and Volvo V60 Cross Country.
Mainstream models include the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Explorer, Ford Escape, Hyundai Palisade and Subaru Outback. The list also has two crossovers we drove earlier this year including the Honda Passport and Kia Telluride.
While trucks are huge sellers, there are only five semifinalists this year. They include the Chevrolet Silverado Heavy Duty, Ford Ranger, GMC Sierra Heavy Duty, Jeep Gladiator and Ram Heavy Duty.
A team of 50 jurors from Canada and the United States will now narrow down the field by test driving the models next month and voting for their favorites. After the results are tallied, three finalists will be named from each category and they’ll be revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 20th.
The winners of the North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year Awards used to be announced at the North American International Auto Show in January, but next year’s show has been moved to June. Despite this, an announcement is still slated for early next year.
