Kia Teases First Look at Next-Gen 2021 Optima
Kia teases what will be the next-generation of its K5 model in South Korea, and what will be for us the 2021 Kia Optima
The Kia Optima first came to our market in 2011, and it was last updated in 2016 – though that update represented an evolutionary rather than a revolutionary change for the sedan.
We can thus expect a more-significant revision for the next generation of the model. Now, Kia has teased a few first images of the overhauled 2021 K5 midsize sedan it will sell in South Korea – and that is the Optima we will get when it debuts here.
The images shown by the automaker reveal a car with substantially revised front end, but one that still shows its parentage with the editions of the model that came before. Among the notable changes are stylish new LED daytime running lights and a front grille that’s grown in size.
In back, the rear lights get the same revised styling as the headlights, and there’s a thin LED light strip stretching across the back end.
Inside, the 2021 Optima gets numerous digital screens, starting with the instrument bloc and the multimedia system. It appears the quality of the interior has been upgraded as well, and Kia promises a superior level of luxury.
Kia’s next-generation K5 sedan will be officially unveiled in South Korea in December, but the company is not saying anything yet regarding a North American debut. The 2020 Detroit auto show in June 2020 could be a logical choice for that, however.
