The Kia Telluride is now the official 2019 SUV of Texas
Judges at the 2019 Texas Truck Rodeo have chosen the 2020 Kia Telluride SX as the official SUV of Texas.
It adds to the growing number of trophies claimed by the brand-new Kia SUV, clearly rewarding the decision to design and build the Telluride for North American customers.
Chrysler brands also scored highly with the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) for 2019, with Ram and Jeep vehicles dominating the pickup truck categories.
Built in America, for Americans
Launched at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, the Kia Telluride SX pitched itself into the important mid-size SUV market, facing fierce competition from the Ford Explorer.
Having been designed in Irvine, California, and then constructed at Kia’s factory in West Point, Georgia, the Telluride has American customers at heart.
After being subjected to two days of evaluation, both on- and off-road, the Telluride managed to win over the Texas judging panel. Michael Marrs, TAWA President, noted that the judges were “impressed by the level of luxury and value in the new Telluride” and that it “delivers a lot of practicality and comfort for Texas families.”
Earlier this year, the Kia Telluride SX won the CUV of Texas award, as part of the Texas Auto Roundup also organized by TAWA.
2020 Ram 1500 is the Truck of Texas
Ram pickup trucks have previously performed well at the annual Texas Truck Rodeo, with the tradition being continued for the 2019 event. The new 2020 Ram 1500 won the overall Truck of Texas category for the second year in a row.
Michael Marrs commented that TAWA’s “journalist members were impressed with the continued capability and refinement in the Ram product line, particularly the 1500 compared to the domestic competitors at the event”.
The 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel took the prize for best full-size truck, with the 2020 Ram 1500 Limited voted the best luxury pickup truck. The larger Ram 2500 also collected two awards, taking best off-road truck and best heavy-duty truck.
Jeep Gladiator proves to be ready for battle
Jeep will also be pleased with the results of the 2019 Texas Truck Rodeo, which saw the new Gladiator crowned as the official Mid-Size Truck of Texas. Interest in the Jeep Gladiator has been intense since it was first announced, with the Launch Edition selling out in under a day.
Jeep also saw victory in the Compact SUV class, with the Renegade Trailhawk emerging as the winner.
First held in 1992, this year’s Texas Truck Rodeo brought together 56 journalists from the Lone Star state. A total of 54 different vehicles were evaluated, with the 2019 Rodeo taking place in the Texas Hill Country.
