New 2020 Kia Sorento spotted during official photoshoot
Our spy photographers have spotted an uncamouflaged version of the fourth-generation Kia Sorento during its official photoshoot, giving us our best look yet at the SUV’s updated styling.
The all-new model will be unveiled on Tuesday 3 March, before making its public debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
Alongside the deluge of spy shots, Kia has now issued an official teaser image of its new SUV, accompanied with some official insight.
The fourth-generation Kia Sorento retains the brand’s trademark “tiger nose” grille shape, but now features boxier dimensions and a set of vertical rear lights which resemble the units fitted to the US-market Kia Telluride. There’s also a pair of new LED headlights, a more steeply raked roofline and redesigned tailgate.
Previous spy shots (from the Instagram user @CocheSpias) revealed the Sorento’s interior in full. Kia will attempt to move its largest SUV upmarket with this fourth-generation model, by adding chrome and piano-black plastic trim, new leather upholstery, LED ambient lighting and a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system lifted from the Soul EV.
Thanks to a new platform, Kia will also update the Sorento’s engine range, adding a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the first time. The system will likely comprise a four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to an electric motor and an automatic gearbox. Like the outgoing model, a diesel option will also be available with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The new Sorento will be available as a seven-seater, making it Kia’s flagship SUV in the UK. When it goes on sale later this year, it will remain a rival for models such as the Hyundai Sante Fe, Skoda Kodiaq and Land Rover Discovery Sport.
